we are in the midst of a sea change election

what now?

Since losing my election for State Representative in Indiana in 2020, Arielle and I have had quite a ride. Here's the bulleted version:

  • We both started great new roles in fulfilling careers - Arielle in media and me in education technology
  • We moved back to New York City - a positive move for our lives and careers but difficult to leave my roots and family and...
  • We had our first child, our daughter!

After my daughter's birth, I realized that the every election we have from here determines not just what my life will look like, but also what her life will look like. I also realized that I worry about the state of the world that we will leave for her when she is my age 30-some years from now. That's why two years after losing the election, Arielle and I realized we needed to take action.

On the ballot this year are some of the most important topics in our lives:

  • Climate change and what we will do to protect our planet and our futures
  • Democracy and the future of it
  • The rights of women to make choices about their lives and bodies
  • How we deal with gun violence and safety in this country
  • Whether we see healthcare as a fundamental human right or not
  • How we look to fund and impact our education system for the future of our young people

I ran in 2020 because I was committed to a Big Future for Everyone and because many of these issues I thought I could impact as a Democrat, even in a Republican state. That hasn't changed. One of the biggest lessons in our campaign, though, was that even the best ran campaign in an unwinnable district, cannot be won. So Arielle and I got to thinking - what if we could focus our efforts on elections in districts and races that were winnable for Democrats, even if they weren't in our backyard? What if we could have an enormous impact on the campaigns that most need it and where we could actually have an impact. We searched and had a number of conversations with organizations, and we found an organization that does just that and wanted to share them with our supporters.

Enter SwingLeft...

SwingLeft is a nonprofit organization that takes a data driven approach to impacting the most competitive races in the country to help Democrats win. We met with SwingLeft, and they gave us three ways that you can help:

  1. Volunteer to be a part of the Last Weekend (11/5-11/8) - This is the last effort to help get Democrats out to vote.
  2. Make a matching donation to the Immediate Impact Fund - Arielle and I have committed to Swing Left that we will match every donation that our supporters make to the Immediate Impact Fund which allows donors to donate to the most competitive Democratic races who are in urgent need of funding.

We hope you will help us make THE DIFFERENCE this election through your efforts and donations this election. Let's create a better country and better world for our generation and the next.
